American Legion Post No. 15

July 2018

The next Regular meeting will be on August 21st, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. The next House and Officers’ meeting will be on September 4th, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. All are invited to attend.

.COMMANDER—I received a call from a young woman named Kathy representing the Oakville High School. She asked to speak at the August meeting. The reason for her being here is to talk about the high school band having the honor of playing next year on Omaha Beach for the 75th year of the invasion. I ran it pass the Officers at our last meeting and they approved.

FIRST VICE—We had two guests, one was Rev. Darrel Curtis, and the second was Mike Vensco the Jefferson Barracks Museum Curator. He gave a talk on the ceremony planned for Veterans Day at the WWI Memorial.

CHAPLAIN— Tom reported two members under the weather. One was Mike Czerwinski, the other is Ernie Hausman. Cards were sent to both.

MORTUARY—Tom reported the loss of a member. He is Bart Collida, a 43 year member. Card was sent to his family.

FINANCE OFFICER—Finance report was not read as we had a visitor.

FIRST VICE—50/50—We had three winners. They were Jim Applebaum, Jim Gualdoni, and Bob Bradley

OLD BUSINESS—Roger mentioned the brick for the WWI Museum in Kansas City that we voted to purchase at the June meeting. He still does not have the inscription to be placed on said brick. The discussion was tabled till the next meeting.

NEW BUSINESS—Paul Campos presented a young woman as a potential member of our post. She is Karen Bolhuis, (Navy). The first vote will be taken at the Officers Meeting and the second at the August Meeting.

The Fall BBQ will be on September 16th, and we will need help in all different places, such as serving line, and cleanup, etc.

The post was asked to furnish a Color Guard for the Challenger Baseball Games which was to be held on July 14th at Berra Park, but the skies opened up at about 4:30 and games were cancelled.

Officers were sworn in for the coming year. Congratulations to them.

The next Regular meeting will be on May 15th, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. The next House and Officers’ meeting will be on June 5th, 2018 at 7:00 P.M. All are invited to attend. Please fly the flag of our country on May 19th (Armed Forces Day), and May 28th (Memorial Day).

Remember to keep May 28th open for our Memorial Day Ceremony. It will be at the Post, starting at 11:00 A.M. and will last about a half hour at most. This day is set aside to honor our departed comrades.

COMMANDER—Lou reported the Fish Fries are all over, and he is happy to report we had a huge success. Last year was our best and we topped that by $1001.29 dollars. I want to thank all of our members for all the work they did to make this such a big success.

FIRST VICE—Roger reported we had one member transfer to us; he is Robert Bradley (Marine), and a prospective new member, Khean Ho (Army). First vote was taken for Mr.Ho. Welcome aboard.

ADJUTANT—A request for nominations from the floor for our next year’s Officers. None were made, so the Officers will remain the same except for the Sgt-at-Arms who will be Harry Schwer.

FINANCE OFFICER—Finance report was read and accepted. Jim is still collecting dues for 2018

CHAPLAIN—-Tom reported we had two members on sick call. They are Charles Oldani, and Mike Licavoli. Get well cards were sent to them.

HOUSE PRESIDENT—Roger reminded all that the Fall BBQ will take place May 20th. We will need volunteers to make it work.

SGT-AT-ARMS—We had 17 members in attendance.
50/50—Winner of the two drawings was Lou Venegoni. He donated his winnings back to the House.

GOOD OF THE LEGION—Kenny Kittrell requested permission to fly the flag which was temporarily donated to the post by the family of Henry J. (Mac) McArdle. He requested to fly it during the month of May, and permission was granted.

Jim Appelbaum let all the members know that the Marine Crops. Organization known as the Devil Dogs will be having a BBQ on May 19th at Lindbergh and Tesson Ferry, (by the White Castle). It will be held from 11:00 A.M. till ?????. All processes will be donated to Children’s Hospital. Good luck Devil Dogs.

Our newest member Robert Bradley donated a picture of many well-known Generals of WW II to the post.

COMMANDER—Lou reported the Fish Fry’s to this point have been a large success. He thanked all that have helped up to now, and as of this meeting we still had two to go so we still need all the help we can get.

CHAPLAIN—-Tom reported we had two members on sick call. They are Jimmy Smith, and Larry Tornetto. Get well cards were sent to them.

MORTUARY—Tom reported on the loss of one of our members, Thomas Kaestner, a member for 46 years. Card was sent to his family.

CHILD WELFARE—Check for $500.00 was given to Hill 2000 to help defray the cost of the Easter Egg Hunt at Berra Park on April 1st.

SGT-AT-ARMS—We had 16 members in attendance.

50/50—Winner of the two drawings was Jim Applebaum.

OLD BUSINESS—Tom Marty’s name was read for the second reading and he was voted by the members to be a member of the post. Welcome aboard Tom.

GOOD OF THE LEGION—March 29th will from now on be known as Vietnam Veterans Day per President Trump.

Nominating Committee met on March 14th and after much discussion it was decided to keep the existing Officers as is for the coming year. Any nominations from the floor will be taken at the April meeting.
Jeff Bailey will soon be sending the raffle tickets for the Spring BBQ. The date for the BBQ is May 20th. Please mark your calendars.
